About Marianwood / MARIANWOOD RESIDENCE
One idea in 2018.
A home for what comes next.
It began with a property, a bold idea and a belief that where students live can shape how confidently they step into the future.
01Where the story began
In 2018, Marianwood’s founder purchased the property with an idea: to create a student residence that could offer more than a room. The vision was a place where students could settle into university life, build lasting connections and return each day to surroundings that felt familiar. From that first idea, Marianwood began to take its place in the Edgewood student community. The rest, as they say, is history—and the next chapter is only beginning.
02Part of the Edgewood story
Marianwood is not appearing on the student map for the first time. UKZN’s public residence information names Marianwood among the off-campus residences serving Edgewood Campus, and the University’s 2026 approved private accommodation list includes the residence. That is a meaningful foundation as we look ahead to 2027.
03The life between lectures
A residence becomes memorable in the hours around the timetable: the early starts, shared meals, study sessions, quick conversations in the passage and the feeling of returning to a familiar place at the end of a long day. Marianwood brings those everyday moments together in a residential setting in Ashley, Durban.
04Space to find your rhythm
Some students arrive knowing exactly what university life will look like. Others are finding their feet one day at a time. Marianwood is a place to build your own routine while being part of a wider residence community—with rooms to settle into and shared spaces for the moments that turn neighbours into friends.
05Come and make an informed choice
The right residence should feel right in person. Explore the rooms and shared spaces, ask the practical questions that matter to you and talk to the team about the 2027 process. We want every prospective resident to understand the offer before making a commitment.
